Work Type Assignment

The Work Type Assignment determines which pick flow an order will follow and is assigned when the order is sent/uploaded into JASCI. A work type is assigned depending on the order line information such as line quantity and/or the product(s). Typically parcel orders, due to their size are assigned SINGLE or DISCRETE work types and larger orders (LTL or FTL) are assigned PALLET PICK or ORDER PICK.

SINGLE vs DISCRETE Work Types

If an order is a single line and a single quantity of one, JASCI will assign the work type SINGLE.

  • When multiple SINGLE work type orders with the same product for a qty of 1 are in the system, JASCI will batch the orders together “BATCHSINGLE” worktype for picking.

    • The orders will then be broken down into the individual order number at the pack out station. JASCI’s logic allows the orders with the highest priority (oldest order, ship via, etc,) to be processed first.

If an order is a single line with more than a quantity of one or a multi-line order, JASCI will assign the work type DISCRETE.

Depending on the cart configuration, JASCI will Cluster multiple work types under one picking cart (see container and cart creation/maintenance).

PALLET PICK vs ORDER PICK Work Types

If an order calls for full pallet quantities, JASCI will assign the work type PALLET PICK.

  • PALLET PICK work type allows full pallets to picked from inventory

If an order has multiple products and will ship LTL/FTL, JASCI will assign the work type ORDER PICK.

  • ORDER PICK work type allows mixed pallets to be built during the picking process.
